Prayagraj: Hundreds of tents were reduced to ashes after a massive fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela area in Prayagraj on Sunday afternoon, raising questions on the safety of crores of people who are coming to Prayagraj for the Mela. 

The fire has triggered a debate on the safety and arrangements at the World's largest spiritual gathering. 


PM Modi expresses concern
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed concern over the fire incident at the Maha kumbh and spoke with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about the matter. PM Modi sought detailed information about the incident.

Yogi visits Prayagraj
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath himself visited the site of the fire in the Maha kumbh Mela area and gathered information about the incident.

Akhilesh Yadav asks govt to take it seriously
Samajwadi Party’s national president, Akhilesh Yadav, also reacted to the incident. He posted on the social media platform X, urging that "the fire incident at the Maha Kumbh Mela should be taken seriously, and steps should be taken to ensure such accidents do not occur in the future."

'Probe to be conducted'
In addition, Uttar Pradesh Police Chief Prashant Kumar stated that the fire incident would be thoroughly investigated. Many political leaders have reacted to and commented on this incident.

Cause of fire
According to the information so far, the fire in the Kumbh Mela area was caused by a cylinder blast, and around 200 tents were burnt to ashes.
