However, forest fires continued in Kumaon and Garhwal districts of the hill state. Forest and fire department officials are still on alert, trying to control the flames in Nainital, Bhimtal, Ranibagh, Jyolikot, Kotabag, Betalghat regions.

Yesterday, forest fires reached Nainital, sending smoke billowing through the hill town. Army helicopters were pressed into service to aid the fire-fighting efforts.
