Uttarakhand: Car falls into ditch in Chakrata; Two killed, two injured

Dehradun: At least two persons were killed and two others injured as a car with four people fell into a ditch on Bundel Road near the Lokhandi village in Chakrata on Saturday.

According to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), "We received information that a car carrying 4 people fell into about 900 meters deep ditch and crashed in Chakrata, Dehradun ."

SDRF team reached the spot for rescue operations.

The SDRF rescued two injured and took out the bodies of two persons killed in the accident.

Further investigation in underway.

Early this week in Dehradun, a Mercedes rammed six people killing four and injuring other two and sped away on Wednesday. The accused, 22-year-old Vansh Katyal, was arrested.
 
Accident Near Sai Temple

The accident happened near the Sai Temple on the Rajpur Road when the driver of the car lost control and ran over people walking by the side of the road as well as a few motorists. 

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was moving at a very high speed and suddenly lost control before hitting pedestrians and motorists.

Two Labourers Among Four Dead

Two labourers were among the four who died and have been identified as 30-year-old Mansha Ram and 35-year-old Ranjit from Ayodhya. Two other victims are yet to be identified by the police.

Accused Arrested

Police recovered the Mercedes involved in the accident in the Sahastradhara area. The accused, Vansh Katyal, has confessed his crime. He said that the Mercedes is registered in the name of his brother-in-law Jatin Prasad Verma.

Katyal was caught from the Dehradun ISBT. He hails from Moradabad and was previously employed in Delhi. After leaving his job, he moved to Dehradun.

The accused said he took the Mercedes for a drive along with his nephew on March 12. Two scooters  suddenly appeared in front of the car when, he was coming back from  Rajpur. He said the car rammed into one of the scooters, which lost control and ran over four pedestrians.

After the accident, Katyal left the car in Sahastradhara. He borrowed a scooter from his friend and drove away.
