Uttarakhand: 13 killed, two injured as passenger vehicle falls into ditch

Thirteen passengers died on the spot while two people were seriously injured after a passenger vehicle fell into a deep gorge in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand on Sunday morning.

Dehradun: Thirteen passengers died on the spot while two people were seriously injured after a passenger vehicle fell into a deep gorge in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand on Sunday morning.

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) spokesperson Lalita Das Negi told UNI that at around 08:15 am today, a Balero vehicle fell into a deep gorge near Bayla village on Tuni Marg, under the Chakrata police station. Police force and SDRF teams from Chakrata police station immediately reached the spot and relief and rescue work was started.

She said that a total of 15 passengers were in the vehicle, out of which 13 died on the spot while two injured were evacuated and admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Negi said that this vehicle had left from village Bayla for Vikasnagar at 08:00 am and at a distance of about 100 meters ahead of the village, the vehicle fell into a deep gorge uncontrollably. The cause of the accident is being investigated.

She told that Matbar Singh son Late Bhagat Singh, (48), Rekha Chauhan, wife Matbar Singh, (30), Tania daughter Matbar Singh, (11), Isha Chauhan daughter Gajendra Singh, (18), Kajal daughter Jagtu Singh, ( 15), Jaipal Singh son Bhau Singh, (40), Sadhu Ram son Gulab Singh, (60), Ajali daughter Jaipal Singh, (13) , Dan Singh son Rattu Singh, (60), Ratan Singh son Rati Ram, (50) ) year, Narendra Singh son Bhau Singh, (35), all residents of village Bayla, Chakrata (Dehradun) Jitu Ram son of Fetia resident: Village Maletha Chakrata (34) and Hari Ram son Devi Ram resident: Village Khadka Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh) ( 52) Varsha also died on the spot.

The spokesman said that apart from this, Hrithik son of Inder Singh resident of village Byla Chakrata (06) and Gajendra Tomar son of Dal Singh resident village Pithuva Chakrata (29) has been admitted to Chakrata Community Health Center in critical condition.

Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, leader of Opposition Pritam Singh and officials of Revenue and Police Department reached the spot. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the relatives after post-mortem on the spot itself. (UNI)
