Uttar Pradesh: Maharajganj court sentences US citizen to 2-year imprisonment for fake visa

Maharajganj: Chief Judicial Magistrate Saurabh Srivastava has sentenced American citizen Eric Daniel Beckwith, who was caught entering India from Nepal on the basis of illegal visa, to 2-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs20,000.

In case of non-payment of fine, he will have to undergo additional imprisonment for 15 days.

According to Dynamite News correspondent, Additional Superintendent of Police Atish Kumar Singh said on Saturday that on March 29, 2023, a 36-year-old American citizen Eric Daniel Beckwith, who was trying to enter India from Nepal, was stopped by the Immigration Department in Sonauli area of India-Nepal border. When his documents were checked, his visa was found to be fake. He was arrested.

Singh further said that a case was registered against Beckwith under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Foreigners Act.
