Uttar Pradesh: Four people killed in Meerut as their car catches fire

Meerut: Four people were burnt alive in a moving car after their vehicle caught fire near Meerut, police said on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Lalit (20), Rajni (40), Radha (29) and Kavita (50).

"Late last evening, a car travelling from Ghaziabad to Haridwar suddenly caught fire. Four people in the car died on the spot. The pedestrians informed the police after which the police team and fire brigade reached the spot and doused the fire. 

Postmortem is being conducted and DNA samples are being safeguarded for identification," said Senior Superintendent of Police (Meerut) Rohit Singh.

The official said that the cause of the incident is supected to be a glitch in the functioning of modified CNG installed in the car.
