New Delhi: The Election Commission on Tuesday announced that bypoll for the Khatauli Assembly constituency will be held on 5 December. Counting of votes to be on 8 December.

The Khatauli seat fell vacant after a court in Muzaffarnagar sentenced BJP MLA Vikram Saini and 10 others to two years imprisonment in a case related to the 2013 riots in the district.

The schedule for the byelection is as follows:

Issue of gazette notification: 10 November
Last date on nomination:17 November 
Scrutiny of nomination: 18 November
Last date for withdrawal of nomination: 21 November
Date of poll: 5 December
Date of counting: 8 December
Date before which election shall be completed: 10 December
