Uttar Pradesh: 9 killed, 2 others wounded in wall collapse in Lucknow

Lucknow: 9 people, including 4 of a family, were killed and 2 others injured when a wall collapsed in Dilkusha area due to incessant rain here, police sources said on Friday. The deceased include 3 men, 3 women and 3 children, police said.

The incident took place around 2 am when the wall collapsed on makeshift shanties. "The police reached the spot and launched a relief and rescue operation," the sources said.

Those killed in the incident have been identified as Pradeep (28), his wife Reshma (25), Naina (1), Dharmendra (28), his wife Chanda (25), their two sons, Pappu (50) and his wife Man Kunwar Devi (45).

The injured have been admitted to Civil Hospital where their condition is stated to be stable. "All the victims are said to be residents of Jhansi district," they said.

District Magistrate (DM) Surya Pal Gangwar visited the spot and the hospital to review the situation. The DM said ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each would be provided to the kin of the dead from the Chief Minister's calamity fund. (with UNI inputs)
