New Delhi: UPI (Unified Payments Interface), which has become the most popular means of digital payments across the country, crashed once again on Saturday morning, causing huge problems for lakhs of users in transactions. This sudden technical glitch increased the problems of common citizens and traders, especially those who transact through major digital platforms like PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm.

According to the Dynamite News correspondent, more than 1,168 complaints were registered regarding UPI services till noon. Of these, 96 complaints came on Google Pay alone and 23 complaints on Paytm. Technical issues like transaction failure, payment getting stuck and not getting connection to the server came to the fore in the complaints.

No official clarification

No official statement has been issued by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) or any major UPI service provider regarding this glitch so far. However, the frequent interruptions in the UPI service in the last few weeks have raised questions whether India's most trusted digital payment system is under technical pressure.

Technical flaws are constantly coming to the fore

This is not the first time that the UPI service has been disrupted. On March 26, 2025, a major glitch was also reported on the UPI platform. When crores of users across the country could not do any digital transaction for about 2 to 3 hours. At that time NPCI blamed technical reasons and later the service was restored.

Big impact on small traders

Not only the common consumers have been affected by the technical glitch. But small shopkeepers, street vendors and traders present in the malls also appeared troubled. At many places, there was an argument between customers and shopkeepers because the payment for the purchased items could not be made due to the transaction not being completed.

Questions on the pace of Digital India

Under the "Digital India" mission promoted by the government, UPI is considered the backbone of cashless transactions in the country. But the technical glitches that have been constantly coming up in the past days are affecting this trust. Experts believe that due to increasing traffic and number of transactions, there is more pressure on the UPI server, due to which the system is repeatedly going down.
