New Delhi: A 33-year-old Indian woman Shahzadi Khan, who was on death row in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for allegedly killing a four-month-old baby, was executed in Abu Dhabi on 15 February.
Indian embassy was informed about execution only on Feb 28. "It is over. She was executed on Feb 15. Her last rites will be held on March 5," a senior law officer representing Centre told Justice Sachin Datta.
“The UAE authorities informed the Indian Embassy on February 28, that the sentence of Ms. Shahzadi has been carried out in accordance with local laws. The family of Ms. Shahzadi has been informed of the matter,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.
The highest court of the UAE, the Court of Cassation, upheld the sentence on Shahzadi, 33.

“The Indian Embassy provided all possible legal assistance to Ms. Shahzadi, including sending mercy petitions and pardon requests to the Government of the UAE,” the MEA said.
According to reports, Shahzadi Khan who hailed from Banda district in Uttar Pradesh was executed on February 15.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed the Delhi High Court on Monday that they received confirmation of her execution on February 28.
Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma told the court that she was executed on February 15.
Shahzadi had been imprisoned in Al Wathba jail in the UAE for years.

Appeal To Prez, PM
Last year, her father Shabbir Khan had made an emotional appeal to the UAE ruling family, as well as to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pleading for mercy to save his daughter.
Charges On Shahzadi
Shahzadi was accused of causing the death of an infant she was tasked to care for. The child’s parents accused Shahzadi of being responsible for their son’s death. An investigation led to Shahzadi’s arrest and a death sentence was pronounced by an Abu Dhabi court.
Following the verdict, her father, Shabbir Khan, appealed to the district administration and the government to intervene and save his daughter.
