Lucknow: An auto driver Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, accused of kidnapping, rape, murdering and robbery in Malihabad, was killed in police  encounter here in Lucknow on Friday night, reports Dynamite News correspondent. 

Ajay Dwivedi had 23 criminal cases registered against him and after the arrest of his brother Dinesh, Lucknow Police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on Ajay.

Backgrounder

Dynamite News correspondent further reports that the whole matter came to light when the woman was returning from bus station in the accused auto to her brother's house in Lucknow after her interview in Varanasi.

However, the accused auto driver took the woman from the bus station through another route and tried to force himself on her.

When the woman protested, the accused strangled her to death. The inhuman incident sent shock waves across the state.

Police Action

After the incident, the police jumped into action to arrest the accused Ajay Dwivedi. The police through sources came to know that that Ajay was hiding near Deva Restaurant in Malihabad. As soon as the police surrounded the area, Ajay opened fire on the police.

Criminal History

Accused Ajay and his brother Dinesh have a long criminal history. Ajay has been accused in rape cases before and he had also gone to jail for some time. Dinesh also has 9 different criminal cases registered against him.

According to the police, both the brothers are known as history-sheeters of Dubagga and complaints have been filed against them under several serious sections.
