UP By Elections: Election Commission can announce the dates today

Uttar Pradesh: It is likely that the Election Commission will hold a press conference after 3:30 pm and will also release the schedule of by-elections along with the election dates of Maharashtra-Jharkhand assembly.

EC will hold press conference
Election Commission will hold an important press conference today i.e. on Tuesday. The dates of Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections can be announced in this press conference to be held at 3:30 pm. Along with this, the schedule of UP by-elections will also be released.

By-elections are to be held on these seats
By-elections are to be held on 10 assembly seats in UP - Karhal (Mainpuri), Sisamau (Kanpur), Milkipur (Ayodhya), Katehari (Ambedkarnagar), Kundarki (Moradabad), Khair (Aligarh), Ghaziabad, Phulpur (Prayagraj), Majhava (Mirzapur) and Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar).

Sisamau seat has fallen vacant due to the conviction of SP MLA Irfan Solanki whereas 9 MLAs have become Lok Sabha members.

BJP will field its candidates on nine seats
For the by-elections to be held on 10 assembly seats of UP, the central leadership of BJP has decided to contest on 9 seats itself. Along with this, the names of nine candidates for these seats have also been finalized. 

It has also been decided that in the by-elections, new faces will be given more opportunities. However, the names of these candidates will be announced after the notification of the by-election is issued. (with Agency inputs)
