UP: 5 died, 40 injured due to stage collapse on Adinath Mahotsav in Baghpat

Baghpat: At least 5 devotees died and over 40 injured in Baraut in Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh.
The tragedy happened during Lord Adinath's Nirvana Laddu festival in Baghpat. So far 5 people have died and more than 40 devotees were injured when the stairs of a 65 feet high stage collapsed in the ground of Shri Digambar Jain Degree College. The injured were taken to the hospital, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
The administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

A program was organized for the Abhishek of Lord Adinath--the Moksha Kalyanak Nirvana Mahotsav under the aegis of Shri 1008 Adinath Bhaktaambar Prachar at around 8 am. A crowd of devotees had gathered in it. The wooden stairs of the temporary stage built in the Maan Stambh complex broke and the stage collapsed.
Delay in medical help
After the accident, the injured devotees could not get immediate medical facility. Due to the unavailability of ambulance, they were taken to the hospital through e-rickshaw. The condition of many devotees is said to be critical.
As soon as the information of the incident was received, the Barot Kotwali police reached the spot and controlled the stampede and sent the injured to the hospital.

Devotees angry

It is being told that the temporary stairs could not bear the weight of the huge crowd of devotees and broke. People are expressing displeasure over the lack of security arrangements and disaster management during the event.

After this accident, the administration has ordered an investigation into the matter. SDM Manish Kumar says that strict action will be taken against the culprits and all possible help will be provided to the injured.
