Unnao: Six persons were killed after being hit by a dumper in Achalganj area of Unnao, a police officer said on Monday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Shankar Meena said that the incident took place late on Sunday evening near Azad crossing on Lucknow-Kanpur highway when the dumper going towards Lucknow after hitting a motorcyclist mowed down a woman and her daughter in a bid to escape and overturned on a car.

He said that the police reached the spot and took the injured to the district hospital. "While two persons died on the spot, four succumbed to injuries at the hospital," he said.

Emergency Medical Officer (EMO) of the district hospital Dr Ashish said that the deceased have been identified as Chhote Lal (32), Shivang (30), Vimlesh (60), Pooran Dixit, Ram Pyari (45) and her daughter Shivani (13).

Agitated by the incident, local residents blocked the road which led to traffic jam on the National Highway. "The jam was cleared after the senior police officers intervened. Efforts are being made to trace the dumper and its driver," sources said. (UNI)
