Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Wednesday.

Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Wednesday.

Official sources said that following specific information about the presence of militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF at Chimmer area in Kulgam today.

However, when security forces were moving towards the target area, militants hiding there fired at them with automatic weapons. “The security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter,” the sources said, adding that two militants were killed in the exchange of fire.

The operation was still going on when the reports last came in. The identity of the militants is being ascertained. “Additional security forces have also been deployed in adjoining areas to maintain law and order,” the sources said.(UNI)
