Chennai:The Mysore-Darbhanga Bagmati Express on Friday collided with a goods train in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district, leaving 19 passengers injured, officials said. 

According to the officials, the train entered a loop line instead of the main line and hit a stationary goods train following which at least 12 coaches derailed. 

The incident happened at Kavaraippettai railway station in Tiruvallur district near Chennai.

No loss of lives reported

Talking to reporters, Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh told that no loss of lives reported. The injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital.

Tiruvallur District Collector Dr T Prabhushankar said 1,360 passengers were on board. 

Several trains cancelled 

Following the mishap, several trains have been cancelled while others diverted as restoration work continued, according to reports. 

A high-level inquiry has been ordered by the Railway.

MK Stalin on Train accident 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed shock and said rescue operations are underway.

"The government is working fast in rescue and relief work. The injured are immediately taken to the hospital. A separate team is functioning to arrange food and travel facilities for the other passengers for their homes," Mr Stalin posted on X.
