Ramanathapuram: The Sri Lankan Navy arrested 32 Indian fishermen and seized five mechanized fishing trawlers allegedly for poaching in its territorial waters on Saturday midnight.

Fisheries Department Report

Fisheries department officials quoting preliminary reports said here on Sunday that the fishermen, hailing from Rameswaram were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy, when they were fishing on the high seas close to north of Mannar.

Over 500 boats with fishermen had set sail into the sea for routine fishing after obtaining mandatory tokens from Tamil Nadu fisheries department from Rameswaram fishing jetty on Saturday morning.

Fishermen And Boats To Talaimannar Harbor

The fishermen together with seized boats were taken to Talaimannar harbor, where they will be handed over to the Sri Lankan fisheries department officials for onward legal action.
