Ballia: Thieves targeted a branch of Baroda UP Bank in Ballia district and stole Rs 21.58 lakh, police said on Tuesday. 

According to a Dynamite News correspondent, the robbery was reported from the bank branch located in the Kotwali area. Thieves broke into the bank by opening the locks on Monday night. 

Branch manager discovers robbery
The roberry was discovered by the branch manager and cashier around 10 am on Tuesday when they opened the bank. Following this, the branch manager informed the Rasra Kotwali police.

District Magistrate, police officials & forensic team 
As soon as the authorities were notified, District Magistrate Praveen Kumar Lakshkar, Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, and a forensic team arrived at the scene to investigate. DIG Azamgarh is also reported to be reaching the site.

As per reports, the Baroda UP Bank branch is located on the Mau-Ballia road in Rasra Chatti. The bank had closed at its scheduled time on Monday evening, and all officials and employees had left for their homes.

On Tuesday morning, when branch manager Chandrabhushan and cashier Swami Nath reached the branch at their usual time, they found the main gate's lock open. Shocked, they entered the premises and discovered the locker broken, with ₹21.58 lakh stolen from it.

Invetigation begins
Later, the branch manager alerted the police and senior officials about the theft. Upon receiving the information, District Magistrarte Praven Kumar Lakshkar, Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh, along with police team, reached the spot and started the investigation.
