Medchal District: A five-year-old boy was allegedly thrashed by her school teacher in Telangana's Neredmet, following which police registered a case against the teacher and the principal.

"On February 6, we received a complaint who said his five-year-old son, who is a student of UKG in Bhavan’s Vidyalaya in Sainikpuri area was thrashed by his teacher," said a police official.

In his complaint, the minor's father claimed that the teacher beat up his son with a cane for not paying attention to studies in the classroom.

Taking cognisance of the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act. An investigation in the matter has been initiated.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development, in 2010, banned physical punishment of students following a suicide by a 12-year-old boy in Kolkata, after being humiliated and caned by his school principal. (ANI)
