Jaffna: The Sri Lankan Navy apprehended eight fishermen of Indian origin and seized one boat belonging to them near Jaffna on today.

The Indian fishermen were apprehended for allegedly poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters, northeast of Vettalakerni.

The arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base SLNS Uttara in Kankesanthurai and subsequently, handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for legal action.

The seized trawler and fishing gear were retained at SLNS Elara in Karainagar. (ANI)
