Mumbai: The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Saturday announced to quit the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra, citing Shiv Sena’s (UBT) stand on the Babri Masjid demolition.
Abu Asim Azmi makes announcement
Maharashtra SP chief Abu Asim Azmi announced that the party has quit the MVA, saying there was no point of continuing in the alliance where there is no uniformity on issues nor adequate consultation with allies.

Uddhav Thackeray’s close aide
The announcement comes after Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s close aide and MLC Milind Narwekar posted a picture of the Babri Masjid demolition on X (Formerly known as Twitter).
The post also featured image of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, Uddhav and his son Aaditya Thackeray.
The picture had the quote of Shiv Sena patriarch Balasaheb Thackeray which read, "I am proud of those who did this."

According to Dynamite News correspondent, Abu Asim Azmi and party leader Rais Shaikh today took their oaths in defiance to MVA’s call to boycott oath-taking ceremony of newly-elected MLAs.
Maharashtra Polls
In the recently-concluded Maharashtra polls, the MVA faced crushing defeat at the hand of Mahayuti. The SP had contested nine seats but won just two.
