Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut sent to jail in defamation case

The court has sentenced Raut to 15 days simple imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 25,000, which will be recovered from Raut as compensation. Read further on Dynamite News:

Mumbai: A Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Mumbai on Thursday convicted the Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP in a defamation case filed by Dr Medha Somaiya, wife of former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya.

The court has sentenced Raut to 15 days simple imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 25,000, which will be recovered from Raut as compensation.

Defamation Sections 
Raut has been convicted of defamation under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code. Medha, a professor of organic chemistry at Mumbai's Ruia College, had sought action against Raut under sections 499 (making or publishing false imputations) and 500 (defamation). Raut has accused her and her NGO Yuva Pratishthan of a Rs 100 crore toilet scam.
