Russia-Ukraine War: Intercontinental ballistic missile fired by Russia, says Kyiv

Kyiv: Russia has launched an intercontinental ballistic missile on Ukraine, Kyiv’s air force said on Thursday. 

The launch of the intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), with a range of thousands of kilometres, came days after Ukraine used US and British missiles against Russia earlier this week. Notably, Russia had warned that it would see such action as a major escalation in the Ukraine war. 

No words from Russia yet

Russia has not immediately issued any statement on the Kyiv air force's claim.

1st known use of such nuclear-capable weapon

Notably, it is the first known use of such a powerful, nuclear-capable weapon in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Ukraine Air Force, in the statement, did not specify the kind of warhead the missile was carrying. There was no suggestion it was nuclear-armed, according to reports.

ICBM

ICBMs are strategic weapons designed to deliver nuclear warheads and are an important part of Moscow's nuclear deterrent. 

According to the Ukraine Air Force, the Russia attacked enterprises and critical infrastructure in the central-eastern city of Dnipro. (With Agency Inputs)
