Rajiv Kumar appointed as new Chief Election Commissioner; takes charge on May 15

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind today appointed Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar as next Chief Election Commissioner of India. Kumar will assume charge on May 15.

"The President is pleased to appoint Rajiv Kumar, the senior-most Election Commissioner, as the Chief Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India," the Law Ministry said in a statement here.

"Rajiv Kumar will assume the charge of office of the Chief Election Commissioner with effect from May 15, 2022, consequent upon demitting the Office of the Chief Election Commissioner of Sushil Chandra on May 14, 2022," the statement added.
