Punjab: Gangster shot dead in exchange of fire with police

Amritsar: A gangster was killed in an encounter with Punjab Police near the Beas river in Amritsar while he was allegedly trying to escape police custody. 

The incident occurred when the gangster and a few others accused in a murder case were taken to a place to make some recoveries, according to officials. 


The police said that the ganster, identified as Gursharan, and another accused took out the guns they had previously hidden in the bushes and opened fire at the Amritsar Rural police personnel.

'Police fires in self-defence'

The police personnel fired in self-defence, resulting in the death of Gursharan while Paras managed to flee by jumping into a river, the police added. 

Manhunt launched

A manhunt was launched to nab him. The accused persons were taken into custody in various criminal cases, including a murder case. 

The duo were also accused of killing commission agent in Sathiala, Baba Bakala sub-division. (With Agency inputs)
