New Delhi: Communist Party of India CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury has passed away on Thursday. 

As per Dynamite News correspondent, Yechury took his last breathe Delhi AIIMS.

Yechury was unwell for the last few days and was admitted to AIIMS Delhi on 19 August after suffering from high fever.

Know five unknown facts about Sitaram Yechury
1) Sitaram Yechury was born on 12 August, 1952 in Chennai, Telugu-speaking Brahmin family.

2) He was arrested during the Emergency while he was in JNU. After this, he was elected President of JNU Students Union for three consecutive times.

3) In 1984, he was included in the Central Committee of CPI(M). In 2015, he was elected general secretary of the party.

4) He was awarded with the Best MP Award in Rajya Sabha in 2016.

5) Yechury was elected to Rajya Sabha from West Bengal in 2005. He raised many issues over the topic. He has a distinct identity as a leftist leader. He always stood for leftist ideology.
