Multan: Riding on Harry Brook's 317 and Joe Root's 262, England scored 823/7 runs on the fourth day of the first Test against Pakistan at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
At stumps, hosts were at 152/6 and still trailing by 115 runs with just 4 wickets in hand.
Despite the batting friendly conditions, Pakistan's top order crumbled under the relentless pressure from England's pace attack. For England, Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse took two wickets each in Pakistan's second innings. Pakistan scored 556 runs in their first inning.

Resuming on 492 for 3, England's batters dominated the day, scoring the fourth-highest team total in the history of the longest format of the game.
Brook and Root stitched a 454-run partnership for the wicket, marking the fourth-highest stand in Test history. This stand also broke England's all-time record for the highest partnership.

Brook's triple century
This was Root's sixth double century and his second against Pakistan. Meanwhile, Brook became only the sixth English player to score triple century in Test cricket. He was ultimately dismissed for 317 runs off just 322 balls. During his inning, he hit 29 fours and three sixes.
