Pakistan: New Year celebratory firing leaves 29 injured in Karachi

Karachi: New Year's celebratory gunfire in Pakistan's Karachi resulted in 29 injuries, including two women, the city police said on Wednesday.

The injured were admitted to Civil Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment.

Stray bullets hit people in Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Shah Faisal Colony, and Orangi Town, Geo News reported citing rescue sources.

 30 held
According to the broadcaster, the police arrested 30 people for their alleged involvement in the aerial firing. 

The Karachi police had earlier issued warnings, saying that anyone caught firing in the air would face charges of attempted murder.

Lahore
In Lahore, several people were also arrested for violating laws under the guise of New Year celebrations, according to the police.
