Pakistan: At least 33 killed, several injured in gun attack on passenger vehicles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad: At least 33 people, including women, were killed and 30 others injured after gunmen opened fire on a passenger vehicles in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said.  

The vehicles were travelling from Parachinar to Peshawar was targetted by the assailants, according to media reports.

According to the Tehsil Head Quarters (THQ) Hospital the injured were referred to various hospitals in the district and some to Peshawar.

The attack comes in the wake of sharp uptick in the number of terrorist attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Attacks increased after the banned militant Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan outfit broke a ceasefire deal with the government in 2022 and vowed to target the security forces.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack and expressed his condolences over the loss of lives.  

He also added that those responsible for the attack should be punished. He urged that timely medical aid be provided to the injured.
