New Delhi: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has partnered with the telecom department to recover lost or stolen mobile phones of train passengers. The collaboration leverages the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, following a successful pilot Program in the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).
Once rolled out nationwide, this initiative could benefit millions of rail travelers. Passengers can report missing phones via Rail Madad or by dialing 139. Those unwilling to file an FIR can register complaints directly on the CEIR portal.

If a passenger opts for CEIR registration, the RPF’s zonal cyber cell will log the complaint and block the device after verifying details. If the missing phone is detected with a new SIM, the user will be directed to the nearest RPF post for recovery upon submitting valid documents.
RPF Director General Manoj Yadav called the partnership a "milestone in railway security," emphasizing CEIR’s role in blocking, tracking, and managing stolen devices. The portal will disable phones via IMEI blacklisting, preventing illegal resale.
Under Operation Amanat, the RPF has recovered items worth ₹84.03 crore for over 1.15 lakh passengers between January 2024 and February 2025. Integrating CEIR is expected to boost these efforts, ensuring faster reunions with lost devices.
