Mumbai: The Mumbai Sessions Court will hear Abu Salem's petition to not send him from Taloja jail to another jail on June 25.

"Gangster Abu Salem has filed a petition in the Mumbai Sessions Court to not send him from Taloja jail to another jail. The court will give its order on Abu Salem's petition on June 25," said Alisha Parekh, advocate of Gangster Abu Salem.

Abu Salem is currently serving a life sentence in Taloja Jail, Mumbai, for his role in the 1993 Mumbai bombings and other cases. He was extradited from Portugal to India in 2005 and has been in Taloja Jail since then.

Salem has expressed that he feels safe in Taloja Jail. However, due to upcoming repairs to the anda cell (a high-security cell) in Taloja Jail, the prison administration is considering transferring him to another jail.

Earlier, Alisha Parekh had said, "He (Abu Salem) has filed this application as he feels that there is a threat to his life.

Taloja Jail has replied, stating that the condition of the undercell is not good and it needs to be reconstructed, and there is no other safe space for him, so he has to be transferred to another jail. For now, we have interim relief. Previously, he was attacked two times."

On September 18, 2002, Abu Salem was detained in LISBON (Portugal). After long-drawn proceedings in the Court of Appeal, Lisbon and Constitutional Court of Portugal, the extradition of Abu Salem was granted and his custody was handed over to Indian authorities on November 10, 2005. (ANI)
