Shillong: Four members of a family, including two minors, were buried alive as a massive landslide hit their house at in Pynthor Langtein village in West Jaiñtia Hills district on Sunday due to incessant rainfall, police said.

The victims are Biangki Phawa (29), his wife Pynjanai Ryngkhlem (25) and their children, Edyfy Ryngkhlem (5) and Iwadaroi Ryngkhlem (3).

The family members were asleep when the landslides led to their house collapsing.

The villagers witnessed the landslide at around 5 a.m. and immediately launched a rescue operation, but could not save the family.

Police said their bodies have been retrieved and necessary legal formalities will be observed.
