New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday witnessed an uproar by members of the All India Trinamool Congress on the alleged misuse of the CBI by the Centre in West Bengal, forcing two adjournments of the Upper House, the second time for the day.

When the House reassembled at 1400 hrs, Deputy chairman Harivansh asked Minister of state for Finance P Radhakrishnan to lay on the table the Supplementary demand for grants 2018-19.

After laying of the Supplementary demand for grants, the Deputy chairman called on Mr Bhupinder Yadav of the BJP to move the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address to a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament.

However, Mr Derek O' Brien of the AITC stood up to say that he had issued a notice for suspension of business for discussing the West Bengal issue.

Soon after, members of the AITC and other opposition parties were in the well, shouting slogans against the Government. Repeated pleas by the Chair to agitating members to allow the discussion on Motion of Thanks to the President’s address fell on deaf ears.

Minister of state for Parliamentary affairs Vijay Goel said that the Trinamool members were claiming the Supreme court order as a moral victory.

'If this is so, why are they agitating. It shows that the verdict is a setback for them,’’ Mr Goel said.

As the agitating members continued with their uproar, the Chair adjourned the House for the day . Earlier on Tuesday, the House was adjourned till 1400 hrs after the opposition members created a ruckus over the same issue.

This was second day in a row that the House witnessed disruption on the issue by members of the AITC members. (UNI)
