Mumbai: The Worli assembly constituency in Mumbai is set to witness one of the most fascinating electoral battles. The Shiv Sena (SS) has fielded Rajya Sabha member Milind Deora against sitting Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray for this high-profile seat.
The former Lok Sabha MP Milind Deora's name was announced by SS just a day after Aditya Thackeray filed his nomination from the seat.
Background of both candidates
Currently, Mr Deora is a Rajya Sabha member and has represented South Mumbai Lok Sabha seat thrice. Aditya Thackeray is the grandson of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray and son of former state CM Uddhav Thackeray. Milind Deora, who comes from a Marwari family, is the son of Maharashtra's strong leader, and former Union Minister Murli Deora. Murli Deora had served as the Mayor of Mumbai and was also a member of both houses of Parliament. Murli Deora had represented South Mumbai Lok Sabha seat four times.

Stonghold of Shiv Sena
The Worli seat on which Milind Deora and Aditya Thackeray are going to contest, is adjacent to South Mumbai. In other words, the Worli assembly seat falls in the South Mumbai Lok Sabha seat. Worli has been a stronghold of Shiv Sena for a long time. But now due to the split in Shiv Sena the strength of the party has divided.
Who will emerge victorious?
Now, the big question is who will get benefit from the divided power of Shiv Sena in the Worli seat? Aditya Thackeray or Milind Deora? Let's find out the answer.
Notably, during the last Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year, the party had entrusted Milind Deora with the responsibility of handling Worli. Despite being Aditya Thackeray's constituency, UBT could manage only a lead of 6,500 votes in Worli assembly constituency which has almost 2.75 lakh voters, which can be called a disappointing performance of UBT.
