Maharashtra cabinet approved Ahmednagar being renamed 'Ahilyanagar'

The Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra cabinet has decided to rename the Ahmednagar as Ahilya Nagar on Wednesday.

Mumbai: The Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra cabinet has decided to rename the Ahmednagar as Ahilya Nagar on Wednesday.

The Cabinet has also decided to rename 8 Mumbai railway station names which were British Era names.

Last year, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had announced the renaming of Ahmednagar city to ‘Ahilyanagar’ in honor of the esteemed 18th-century Maratha queen, Ahilyabai Holkar. This announcement was made on Ahilyabai Holkar's 298th birth anniversary.
