Maharashtra: BJP names 3 candidates for state Legislative Council bypolls

Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday released the list of three candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council bypolls.

The selected candidates are Sandip Diwakarrao Joshi, Sanjay Kishanrao Kenekar, and Dadarao Yadavrao Keche.

Why Bypoll

The bypolls were necessitated after five Members of Legislative Council (MLCs) were elected as MLAs in the 2024 Assembly elections

These five MLCs include three from BJP— Praveen Datke, Gopichand Padalkar, Ramesh Karad — and one each from NCP (SP) (Rajesh Vitekar) and Shiv Sena (Amisha Padvi).

The Election Commission of India announced the details of the bypolls for these five seats on March 3.

Counting Of Votes

The bypolls for the five seats in state Legislative Council will be held on March 27. The counting of votes would take place the same day after the completion of the voting process.

The sitting MLAs would vote for electing the five new MLCs.

In the Maharashtra Assembly Election last year, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured an overwhelming 235 seats.

The Maharashtra Legislative Council or Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad is the upper house of the bicameral legislature of Maharashtra state.
