Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: Here is key contestants

Mumbai: Maharashtra will go to polls for the state assembly election on Wednesday. The polling will be held in a single-phase from 7am to 5pm. Out of the 288 seats,  29 are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and 25 are for Scheduled Tribes (ST).

The result will be announced on November 23.  

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fandavish, Nationalist Congress Party (AP) Chief Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar (NCP), Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and Sive Sena Supremo Uddhav Thackeray are among the kye contestants in this Assembly polls.

CM Eknath Shinde 
1) Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is contesting from Kopri-Pachpakhadi Asswmbly Seat

Devendra Fadnavis
2) Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is fighting to retain his stronghold in Nagpur South West. Fadnavis has long been the face of the BJP in Maharashtra, and his development-focused agenda is likely to dominate his campaign. However, Congress candidate Praful Gudadhe is attempting to capitalise on anti-incumbency sentiment and economic grievances among voters. This battle is set to be a referendum on Fadnavis's tenure and his influence in Maharashtra politics.

   Ajit Pawar
3) Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister and leader of the NCP faction allied with the BJP, faces an intense challenge from his own grandnephew, Yugendra Pawar, representing Sharad Pawar’s faction of the NCP. Baramati, the traditional stronghold of the Pawar family, is witnessing a dramatic intra-family rivalry.

4) Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora is contesting against sitting MLA and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray from worli seat.

Besides this, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are also competing for the title of the largest party, while their respective allies — Shiv Sena, Shiv Sena (UBT), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and NCP (SP) — are focused on securing their political footing.

The Mahayuti alliance includes the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's NCP, while the MVA brings together Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction).
