Prayagraj: More than 62.25 lakh devotees took a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam on Monday morning, marking the beginning of the third 'Amrit Snan' on Basant Panchami. 

According to Dynamite News correspondent,  so far, 34.97 crore devotees have taken the holy dip at the Maha Kumbh, which commenced on January 13. 

Naga Sadhus take dip first
The last 'Amrit Snan' of Maha Kumbh was started with the ash-smeared Naga Sadhus taking the dip at the crack of dawn.

Peteals showered at devotees
Flower petals were also showered on devotees at Triveni Sangam to make the event memorable.  

Basant Panchami, also known as Vasant Panchami, Shri Panchami, and Saraswati Panchami, is celebrated on the first day of spring and falls on the fifth day of the month of Magha.    


It also heralds the start of Holi preparations, which take place forty days following the feast. Maa Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning, music, and the arts, is honoured throughout the festival.

Security arregements 
The Maha Kumbh administration has devised a comprehensive six-phase security plan to regulate movement and prevent overcrowding in the Maha Kumbh area where stampede had broken out on Januray 29. 

The number of Kalpwasis--devotees observing month-long spiritual austerities--has exceeded 1 million, adding to the spiritual fervour. (With Agency Inputs)
