Chhattarpur: One person was arrested here for allegedly giving death threat to self-styled godman Dhirendra Shastri, also known as Bageshwar Dham Sarkar, police said on Tuesday. Early today, Shastri had received the threats over the phone, the police said.

The accused was identified as Aman Singh and he was unable to meet Shastri and hence "done such a thing." "The accused has been suffering from some problem and wanted to meet Maharaj Ji, but hasn't been able to talk to him for a long time. This is the reason the accused has done such a thing," said Superintendent of Police Sachin Sharma.

He said a case has been registered against the accused under section 506, 507 of the Indian Penal Code. Meanwhile, Shastri's guru Rambhadracharya said that the government should arrange for his protection. Dhirendra Shastri hit headlines after his controversial remark saying "support me and I will give you a Hindu nation". (Agency)
