Kolkata: The Sealdah Court in Kolkata on Saturday convicted Sanjay Roy for raping and killing a trainee doctor in state government-run RG Kar Medical College & Hospital. 

According to Dynamite News correspondent, the quantum of punishment will be pronounced on Monday.

The trainee medic was raped and killed on August 9, 2024.  Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police,  was arrested on August 10 in the case. 

The case triggered a nationwide outrage and prolonged protests by junior doctors and people.

CBI takes the Case
The Calcutta High Court transferred the probe to the CBI after victim's parents and other people filed petitions demanding a CBI inquiry in the case. 

CBI files Chargesheet
On October 7, the central agency filed a chargesheet against the accused, saying he allegedly committed the crime on August 9 when the junior doctor had gone to sleep in the hospital's seminar room.
