Lucknow: In a shocking announcment, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati today expelled her nephew Akash Anand from the party. 

The decision comes a day after Akash Anand was removed from all party positions. 

In December, 2023 Mayawati had publicly declared Akash Anand as her political successor. Subsequently, in May, 2024,  Mayawati removed him as her "political successor."

Notably, he was removed as party cheif successor  after he was booked by Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during Lok Sabha Polls held last year. 
 
Who is Akash Anand? 
30-year-old Akash Anand, who holds an MBA degree from London college, made political debut in 2017 when he was seen alongside Mayawati at a rally in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, when the BSP Chief shared the stage Akhilesh Yadav as part of Mahagathbandan (Grand Alliannce). 
In June 2019, during the party's national executive meeting, Anand was given the role of the party national coordinator. 

During the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections,  he started mamaging the party's social media. 

Akash, son of Mayawati's youngest brother Anand Kumar, married to Pragya in UK when they studing in the country in 2023. She was doing her graduation in medicine. Pragya is a daughter of former BSP MP Ashok Siddharth.

In departure from party's tradition, Akash Anand launched a 14-day “‘Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay’ Sankalp Yatra” to woo the Dalit voters ahead of Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.

He was not reduced to UP, but involed in party campaigns for many other states as well. 

Noatbly, the party chief said Ashok Siddharth was responsible for Akash's removal from the key posts.
