Srinagar: Security forces shot dead an unidentified militant in a gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday, officials said.

Two soldiers and a policeman were also wounded during the encounter.

The encounter broke out at Wanigam Bala village of the district this morning when joint teams of security forces launched an anti militancy operation in the area.

“During the search operation, as the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter one terrorist has been killed,” a security official said.

"Two soldiers and a policeman were wounded in the initial gunfight."The identity and the group affiliation of the slain militant could not be established immediately.

Police said search operation is going on in the area."01 terrorist killed. Search going on. Further details shall follow," a police tweet said. (UNI)
