Jhansi: At least 10 infants were charred to death and many others injured after a massive fire broke out at the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) late Friday evening, officials said.
Over 50 infants in the ward
According to hospital officials, there were more than 50 infants admitted to the NICU ward and several infants trapped have been rescued.
However some parents told the Dynamite News correspondent that their babies are still missing.

Identification still underway
Chief Medical Superintendent Sachin Mahor on Saturday said that the identification of some infants out of the ten claimed by the fire are still underway.
"Suddenly a fire broke out inside the Oxygen concentrator, efforts to douse the fire were made but since the room was highly oxygenated, the fire spread quickly. Many babies were rescued. 10 babies have died, and injured babies are undergoing treatment," Mahor said.
Fire in oxygen concentrator
The fire, believed to have started due to a short circuit in an oxygen concentrator, spread quickly in the oxygen-rich environment of the NICU, where over 50 newborns were being treated.
