Jammu and Kashmir: Light rain, snow over J&K during next 24 hours

Srinagar:  Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Wednesday predicts scattered very light rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

The MeT office said that currently the weather is partially cloudy and there is a possibility of light rain, snow at scattered places from tonight to the afternoon of March 7 in Jammu and Kashmir.

“No significant weather activity till March 10," it said, adding, “from March 12–14, light to moderate rain and snow at most places over Jammu and Kashmir”.

The night temperature improved in Kashmir Valley but stayed below freezing on Wednesday.

Srinagar had a low of -1.5°C against the -2.0°C recorded during the intervening nights of Tuesday and Wednesday. It was 3.7°C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir recorded -0.6°C against -1.2°C, and Kokernag recorded -1.3°C against the -1.7°C recorded a day ago.

Pahalgam settled at -2.9°C against the -4.0°C recorded the previous night. It was 0.6°C below normal for the tourist hot spot in south Kashmir.

The ski resort of Gulmarg remained the coldest place, with a low of -6.5°C against -9.5°C, and it was 2.0°C below normal for the valley of meadows in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Kupwara had a low of -1.5°C against the -2.3°C recorded the previous night. It was 2.5°C below normal for the frontier Kashmir district on Wednesday, the MeT office said.(UNI)
