California: Swiss maestro Roger Federer defeated long-time rival and fourteen-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal 6-2 6-3 to advance to the last eight at Indian Wells.

This was Federer's third successive victory over Nadal.

The match, which lasted for 68 minutes, saw Federer in magnificent form sealing victory with a thrilling backhand winner.

Federer will now take on Australia's Nick Kyrgios, who defeated world number two Djokovic to reach the quarter-finals at Indian Wells for the first time.
