Ind VS NZ: Kohli, Sarfaraz help India reach 231, keep India's hope alive

Bengaluru: Riding on Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan's fifties, India on Friday reached 231/3 against New Zealand in the first Test match of the three-match series in Bengaluru. 

At stumps, India were trailing by 125 runs after the visitors scored 402 runs in their first innings. For New Zealand,     Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway scored 134 & 91 runs respectively. For India, spinners Kupdeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets each.  

Earlier, India were bundled out for 46 runs in their first inning, their lowest total in a home Test. 

India get good start
India got off to a good start as skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on 71 runs for the openening stand. Jaiswal (35) was the first man to go after he was stumped by Tom Blundell of Ajaz Patel.

Rohit (52), who was batting well, got clean bowled when India's score was 95. 

However, the home team kept the momentum goin as Sarfaraz came out all guns blazing. He was particularly targeting the spinners. He also played well against pacers. 

 

Virat plays lofted shot during 70 runs knock

On the other hand, Kohli was also playing well after scoring duck in the first innings. The pair's 136-run stand came at a good pace. Durig his 70 runs knock, Kohli completed his 9,000 runs in Test cricket.

Right off the final ball of the day spinner Glenn Phillips dismissed Kohli to keep India at 231/3.

For the visitors, spinner Ajaz Patel was the pick of the bowlers as he has taken two wickets in his 12 overs while Glenn Phillips chipped in with the wicket of Kohli on the last ball of the day.
