Sonbhadra: Four pilgrims were killed and four others injured when an SUV collided with a truck trailer in Babhani area of Sonbhadra district here in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, a police officer said here.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the road accident in Sonbhadra district and has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. He has directed the officials to immediately reach the spot, expedite the relief work, and ensure proper treatment of the injured.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalu Singh said that the incident took place when 11 pilgrims were returning to Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh after taking a bath in Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

He said that near Darankhad village under the Babhani police station area, the SUV in which pilgrims were travelling collided with the truck coming from Chhattisgarh.

"Four persons died on the spot, whereas four others were seriously injured. The police reached the spot after the incident and sent all the injured to the hospital," he said.

The ASP said that the deceased have been identified as Anil Pradhan, Lakshmi Bai, Thakur Ram Yadav, and Rukmini Yadav.

"Yogi Ram, Dilip Devi, Surendri Devi, and Harshit have been admitted to the hospital where they are undergoing treatment," he said.
