He was scheduled to retire on 30th November, 2024. He is a 1989 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.

Appointments Committee of Cabinet approves extention
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved extension of Misri as Foreign Secretary beyond the date of his superannuation on November 30 for a tenure up to July 14, 2026 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, in terms of provisions of FR 56 (d), the order read.

He assumed charge as Foreign Secretary on 15 July 2024. Misri has also served in various capacities at the Ministry of External Affairs, in the Prime Minister’s Office and in various Indian Missions abroad in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America.
He was also Private Secretary to three PMs-IK Gujral, Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi.
