New Delhi: Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday expressed grief over the flood situation in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and urged Congress leaders to mobilise aid to support the ongoing relief and rescue efforts in both the States.

"My thoughts are with the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as they endure relentless rainfall and devastating floods. I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. I urge Congress leaders and workers to mobilize all available resources to support the ongoing relief and rescue efforts," Gandhi said in a post on X.

The Congress leader emphasized that the Telangana Government is working tirelessly to manage the crisis and initiate the rebuilding process.

He further posted, "I strongly urge both the Central Government and the Andhra Pradesh Government to swiftly provide comprehensive rehabilitation packages for all those affected by this disaster."

The Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today declared the immediate assistance of Rs 5 crore to the flood-hit districts on the State of Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad and Suryapet.

Chief Minister Reddy also announced Rs 5 Lakh ex-gratia to the kin of people who died in the floods. He instructed authorities to respond quickly to the damage caused to the public. He also assured that the compensation will be increased for the loss of cattle, goats and sheep.

According to the Chief Minister's Office, the State Government will submit a comprehensive report on flood damages to the Central government. Chief Minister Reddy said he will write a letter to the union government seeking immediate assistance and flood relief and appeal to the Centre to declare the floods in the State as a national calamity.

Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer expressed concern over the heavy rain and floods causing disruption of normal life in Vijayawada and surrounding areas.

Governor Nazeer cautioned people to remain in safer places and not to venture outside except in emergency situation with the help of government authorities.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inspected the situation in flood today. Aerial visuals from Vijayawada have shown several areas of the city inundated in the flood water.

Speaking to ANI, Chief Minister Naidu said, "We are streamlining the system, and 110 boats are currently working to supply food and provide medical assistance.

 I am regularly monitoring the floods, and officials are actively working on the ground. Since last night, I have visited many flood-affected areas. The public should not panic. We are setting up command and control centres in the flood-affected regions." (with Agency inputs)
