Fatehgarh: Punjab farmers are holding statewide mahapanchayats to protest the removal of border camps at Shambhu and Khanauri. BKU (Ekta Sidhupur) president Jagjit Singh Dallewal ended his 131-day hunger strike during a mass gathering at Sirhind grain market in Fatehgarh Sahib.

Dallewal had launched the fast on November 26, 2023 demanding legal MSP guarantees. Central ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Ravneet Bittu had previously urged him to stop the protest.

Farmers accuse the government of betrayal, citing police actions against protest sites during ongoing negotiations. Dallewal vowed to continue the agitation until demands for MSP assurance, case withdrawals, and protest victim compensation are met.

The protests echo the 2020-21 farm law agitation, keeping Punjab at the center of farmer resistance movements. Authorities face increasing pressure to resolve agricultural issues ahead of election season.
